2018 Toyota Highlander

2019 Acura RDX vs. 2018 Toyota Highlander

Comparing the 2019 Acura RDX vs. 2018 Toyota Highlander to determine which model is best for your Scottsdale commute? While both models are designed with comfortable interiors, it’s the Acura performance, safety, and added features that make it stand out against the competition. Compare the RDX vs. Highlander below before heading to Acura North Scottsdale for your favorite.

Performance

When it comes to handling the Phoenix roads with power and grace, the new RDX offers tough competition for the Highlander in terms of power, fuel economy, and handling:

  • Acura RDX: The 2.0L four-cylinder generates 272 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque while the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder generates 280 lb-ft or torque. In terms of fuel economy, you can expect an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway on the 2WD RDX option.* Additionally, you can access a 10-speed automatic transmission a standard towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds.
  • Toyota Highlander: The Highlander 2.7L DOHC four-cylinder generates 185 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque while the 3.5L DOHC V6 generates 263 hp. The Toyota SUV offers an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway and provides an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can also access standard towing or 1,500 pounds but can tow more with higher level upgrades.

Safety

Both the Acura and Toyota models come standard with airbags, electronic stability systems, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, AWD, around view monitors, traction control, and more. All this adds up for a safe ride on the Peoria roads.

However, the Acura RDX also comes with a plastic fuel tank that is stronger than the one found on the Highlander. In addition, the Acura comes with a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and a 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty while the Highlander comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Added Features

The Acura RDX interior comes with more added features than the Toyota Highlander. The following RDX features are either not found on the Highlander or are available for an added cost:

  • Remote vehicle starting system
  • Easy entry system
  • Heads-up display
  • One-touch power windows
  • Speed-sensitive wipers
  • Dual-zone air conditioning
